Athlete with a disability beats cancer to become a champion

At the age of 13, while his peers played sports such as football or street games, Anand Arnold was already passionately in love with bodybuilding. He spent most of his free time training in gyms.

In that year he won the title of “Man Gold” in India, and by the age of 15 Arnold had become one of the most famous bodybuilders in India. But in that same year, he was diagnosed with spinal cord cancer, a hellish time for a boy who was only 15.

The muscular young man fought against countless difficulties; a complication of the cancer left his right leg paralysed. For the next three years he could not leave his bed. “Three years was like hell for me. I could not see, everything seemed to close in front of me.” Anand Arnold said.

But his decision to brave the danger and continue training in bodybuilding helped him beat the cancer. He then became the world’s most famous bodybuilder with a disability, with 40 titles large and small, most notably the world bodybuilding championship.
