According to Ms Ngoc, a person with a disability: the toilet's facilities have given people with disabilities the greatest convenience in using it, whatever their type of disability.
As part of the socialisation project for 500 public toilets, on the afternoon of 23 November, at the Revolutionary Veterans' Flower Garden, on Mac Thai To Street, Yen Hoa ward, Cau Giay district, Hanoi, the project investor, Vinasing Trading and Media Joint Stock Company, together with the Hanoi Department of Construction, handed over nearly 50 public toilets (phase 2 of the project) to the operator and manager, Urenco.
The public toilet block is highly functional, with two rooms for men and women; all rooms have handrails to serve people with disabilities.
The toilet is designed and built with a load-bearing steel frame system, resistant to weathering, with a ceiling made of aluminium, easy to clean, well ventilated and keeping the toilet free of odours.
The equipment inside the toilet is of high quality and saves electricity and water. The toilet is environmentally friendly, takes up little land and does not affect the underground system.
Nearly 50 toilets handed over this November will serve residents and visitors in Nam Tu Liem, Cau Giay, Tay Ho and Dong Da districts. A representative of the contractor, Mr Le Xuan Sinh, Director of Vimeco Mechanical and Trading Company, affirmed that the toilets will last at least 10-15 years, serving people well in both technical and aesthetic terms. Besides operating them according to the correct procedures, people need to be shown how to use them properly and to take care of the equipment installed in the toilets.
According to Mr Nguyen Tien Anh, Director of Vinasing Trading and Media Joint Stock Company, when the project first began, there were some difficulties with site clearance for installation, connecting electricity and water, and a lack of cooperation from local people worried about environmental issues,… and these problems have now been overcome. He also affirmed: “From now until Tet (Lunar New Year), 250 toilets will be handed over. The difficult issues have been resolved. The toilets are assembled at the factory and then lifted into place, so it is very quick. Digging the septic tank and pouring the concrete takes about 3-4 days, and for key locations that have to be rebuilt it takes 6-7 days. So we will quickly complete the remaining 150 toilets”.
