From 19–20 May in Thai Nguyen, IDEA organised a training course “Counselling skills for managers of the 1800 8080 hotline” as part of the project “Promoting the inclusion of people with disabilities in Vietnam”, funded by the Embassy of Finland. There were 24 trainees from the Social Work Centre under the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Hospital and the University of Education in Thai Nguyen province.
Training objectives: 1. To master some basic and advanced counselling skills for counselling people with disabilities and their families; 2. To apply counselling skills (through integrated case practice) to provide psychological and legal intervention/support for people with disabilities and their families; to handle and report cases of violations of the law against people with disabilities to the competent authorities and report the outcomes to the people with disabilities concerned; 3. Over the two days of training, the trainees took part fully and enthusiastically.
