Nguyen A accepts a loss to publish an exclusive photo book about Nick Vujicic

On the morning of 3 November at Cong Nhan Theatre (Hanoi), photographer Nguyen A introduced the photo book “Nick Vujicic and his days in Viet Nam”, which attracted much attention. Nguyen A said he had to draw on 20 years of experience to follow Nick closely and capture impressive images of him.

Not only did he help create the exclusive photo book about Nick Vujicic during the speaker’s tour of 50 countries, he also used the money he earned to support the Fund for Children with Disabilities and the Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund. Professor Nguyen Lan Dung joked that Nguyen A had to “accept a loss” to help people with disabilities.

Nearly 200 pages long, with varied images, “Nick Vujicic and his days in Viet Nam” also includes stories and life lessons from the speaker. Nguyen Thi Hoa Binh, who wrote the commentary for the book, said: “During the five days Nick Vujicic spent in Viet Nam, Nguyen A and I were among the people closest to him. So, subjectively, we witnessed the hardships and difficulties Nick had to go through to complete the programme. Yet at times we became objective spectators, seeing how Nick inspired everyone and how much everyone admired him”.

Taking to heart Nick Vujicic’s lesson that “Vietnamese people should help Vietnamese people”, when she heard the idea for the book and Nguyen A’s invitation to write the commentary, she immediately agreed. Hoa Binh said that to complete all the work, from preparing the photos, writing the commentary and designing it to translating it into English, the team had to spend nearly two months.

Together with the book “They lived like this”, “Nick Vujicic & his days in Viet Nam” opens a series of activities of the “Kindness and resilience” bookshelf run by the Fund for Children with Disabilities. The book had previously been launched in Ho Chi Minh City on 20 October.

At the launch, the organisers also awarded scholarships to 10 young people with disabilities.
