A person with a disability wearing an iron suit that helps him move like the Iron Man character in Hollywood (US) films will kick the opening ball on 12 June.

The information was revealed by the organisers and quoted by the AFP news agency. According to the information shared, the iron suit called BRA-Santos Dumont will help the main figure of the opening ceremony move around thanks to electronic circuits in the legs. The identity of the person with a disability is still being kept secret.
The idea, and the start of work on the BRA-Santos Dumont programme, was carried out by a team of scientists from Brazil and many other countries, 156 people in all, starting in 2009. According to the description, when the person with a disability puts on the iron suit, signals from the electronic circuits in the legs will feed back to the brain, helping him control and move.
Brazilian scientists hope that BRA-Santos Dumont will be a significant scientific achievement. With limited economic resources, in the past two years the Brazilian government has only been able to spend about fourteen million US dollars on the programme.
