Young yet always energetic, with many contributions to society, especially for people with disabilities, is the outstanding feature of Le Thanh Van (pictured), a young “cadre, civil servant and public employee who is young, good and friendly in 2014”…
In the last days of 2014, visiting the City Centre for Protection, Vocational Training and Job Creation for People with Disabilities, it was very hard to meet young Party member (born in 1986) Le Thanh Van. The Head of the Organisation, Administration and Protection Department was always busy with work. In charge of many tasks, Thanh Van always completed her assigned work, while regularly seeking creative ways to achieve the best results.
Le Thanh Van always worries that “even non-disabled, able-bodied people find it hard to find work, let alone people with disabilities”, so she has found every way to help them. With the function and task of mobilising resources for support and organising activities to equip people with disabilities with vocational skills and job-seeking skills, she took the initiative in contacting job placement centres and businesses to survey the situation of trainees referred to them, and from that advised on suitable programmes so trainees could meet the needs of the units.
From the start of 2014 to now, this young female Party member has mobilised cash and goods worth a total of more than 806 million VND to organise programmes for children in difficult circumstances. Thanh Van and her colleagues have taken good care of daily meals for 14,747 trainee visits, and provided health advice and care for 245 people at the centre. In total, from August 2013 to now, Le Thanh Van has mobilised nearly 1.5 billion VND to organise programmes such as: International Day of People with Disabilities for 500 trainees; the fourth Moon Festival in 2013 for 300 trainees; the third Loving Spring in 2014, giving 151 gifts to children in difficult circumstances, and many other protection programmes.
In particular, the “sponsored goods management” software Ms Van wrote has saved time, allowing sponsored goods to be checked at any time when needed, fully tracking information and producing reports as quickly as possible, helping warehouse managers keep up to date with the quantity, specifications and expiry date of each type of goods.
Not only that, to fulfil well her role as Secretary of the Youth Union Branch of the City Centre for Protection, Vocational Training and Job Creation for People with Disabilities, Ms Van has made good use of her skills in running, managing and organising activities; and improved her skills in behaviour and handling situations.
With tireless striving and wholehearted dedication to people with disabilities, Le Thanh Van deserves the title of young Party member who completed her tasks excellently in 2014. For two consecutive years, 2012 and 2013, the Centre’s Youth Union Branch was honoured as the leading unit in Social Protection Block 1 of the Youth Union of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, and received Certificates of Merit from the Central Youth Union in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Le Thanh Van was also one of 18 exemplary “Young, good and friendly cadres, civil servants and public employees of 2014” commended by the City Youth Union and a “Typical young citizen of the city in 2014”.
Sharing her achievements during the year, Van humbly said: “Whatever field you work in, if you want good results, first of all each person must be dedicated and passionate, know how to bring out the collective wisdom and learn from colleagues; you must unite and love your comrades and colleagues, and then no matter how difficult the work and tasks are, you will overcome them”.
