The Vietnam Federation on Disability held a press conference on the 2014 Asia-Pacific Forum of People with Disabilities.
This is a forum organised by social organisations for people with disabilities from countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
Held in rotation every two years in a different country, this year the forum conference is being held in Vietnam. The forum is a very favourable opportunity for people with disabilities in Vietnam to meet, learn and exchange experience with international organisations and people with disabilities.
With the aim of reviewing each country's progress in the region in implementing the 10 Incheon Strategy goals, the Millennium Development Goals towards 2015 and the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the forum will put forward solutions to help people with disabilities and their families escape poverty and contribute to the growth and sustainable development of Asia-Pacific countries.
The forum also emphasises the role and participation of young people and women with disabilities in community inclusion activities.
To mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3 December), the forum conference organisers are also holding a number of side events, such as a walk and an exhibition of products made by people with disabilities,…
The forum will take place over three days, from 26 – 28 November, with main themes including: poverty eradication and the rights of people with disabilities; poverty eradication in relation to vocational training and job creation for people with disabilities; participation of people with disabilities in decision-making and policy advocacy; and access to the environment…
