Nguyen Doan Toan, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, has signed Decision No. 6409/QD-UBND approving the project document “Building an accessible tourism information page for people with disabilities”, funded by the Abilis Foundation of Finland for the Hanoi Association of People with Disabilities.
The decision states that the project will build a website on accessible tourism for people with disabilities and a social media page providing information on accessible tourism in Hanoi. It aims to raise public awareness of issues facing people with disabilities and to promote accessibility in tourism for people with disabilities.
The project's main activities are to build the accessible tourism website (introducing tourist sites and the accessibility of facilities for people with disabilities) and to promote the website to the public; and to organise a training programme on construction norms and standards to ensure facilities are accessible to people with disabilities, as required by the Ministry of Construction.
It will survey and assess accessibility at tourist sites, restaurants, hotels, entertainment venues and other places for visitors in the city, and recommend that the relevant units (restaurant and hotel owners, destination management boards and others) renovate their facilities to improve accessibility for tourists.
It will also propose cooperation with tourism service providers to promote the renovation of facilities so that they are accessible to all tourists.
Project funding totals 10,734 euros, of which 9,702 euros are provided by the Abilis Foundation of Finland and 1,032 euros are contributed by the Association of People with Disabilities (in the form of office space, meeting rooms, stationery and other in-kind support).
The Hanoi Association of People with Disabilities bears full responsibility before the law and the Hanoi People's Committee for the contents of its submission No. 05/TTr-HNKT dated 23 August 2017 requesting to receive the project “Building an accessible tourism information page for people with disabilities”, funded by the Abilis Foundation of Finland. It must implement the project effectively, for the right beneficiaries, on a non-commercial basis and in line with its assigned functions and duties, and comply with the law and the city's regulations on managing foreign non-governmental aid and other relevant regulations.
It must complete the aid confirmation procedures as required and report to the People's Committee on receiving the project, as well as on any difficulties arising during implementation.
