With only one leg left, a girl with a disability stays cheerful and persistent in her passion for swimming

Recently, internet users have been sharing a photo of a girl in a bikini happily swimming in the water. It would probably be just an ordinary photo, nothing special, if people had not noticed the prosthetic leg the girl is wearing as a result of an accident two years ago.

The girl in the photo is Leah Washington, who lives in England and is 19 years old. Two years ago, an unfortunate accident happened to Leah, causing her to permanently lose her left leg.

In June 2015, while playing a thrill ride with her boyfriend Joe Pugh at an amusement park, a sudden strong collision occurred, leaving Joe with a broken knee, while Leah had to undergo surgery to have her left leg amputated. The girl, who was only 17 at the time, realised from that moment on that the prosthetic leg she was wearing would be her companion for the rest of her life.

She once felt pessimistic about life and thought she would never get over this pain, but after much effort and hardship Leah can now bravely and confidently show off her prosthetic leg to everyone.

The photo Leah posted on Instagram has so far received 2,296 likes. Many people have left encouraging messages under the photo and keep giving Leah compliments and best wishes.

Leah replied on social media: “Since the accident happened, losing confidence has been one of the biggest psychological problems I have faced. The accident completely turned my body and my life upside down. Even now, I am still getting used to that change. Last year's holiday, having to wear a bikini in front of so many curious eyes around me was, for me, truly a terrifying ordeal.

But now it is different. I feel completely confident about my imperfect leg and my less-than-perfect skin, even when wearing a bikini in front of everyone. And I have also realised that the way people look at me is not discrimination or scrutiny; they just think I am great, that I am very brave”.
