The 2017 Global IT Challenge for young people with disabilities – the “Global Information Technology Challenge” – was held in Hanoi from 19 to 21 September 2017, as one of the activities marking 25 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and South Korea.

This activity was initiated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of South Korea, with the Korean Society for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities (KSRPD) and LG Electronics Group as co-organisers.

This year’s competition brought together 100 students with disabilities aged 13 to 19, selected from 16 Asian countries: 3 countries in East Asia (South Korea, Mongolia, China), 6 countries in Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Brunei, Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam), 5 countries in South Asia (Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan), and 2 countries in Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan).

In addition to helping young people with disabilities learn and practise IT, one of the major activities of the competition is coordination between government agencies to develop plans to support IT development for people with disabilities in various countries.

Since 1992, IT Challenge was first held in South Korea with the motto “Leave no one behind”. In 2011, the competition was developed into a global event with the participation of many countries in the Asia-Pacific region, always accompanied and supported by LG Group.
