Amanda Fyfe was born with severe brittle bone disease, which left her stunted, only 81 cm tall. Doctors even warned Amanda’s parents that their child could not survive the night she was born. So getting married and having children was something Amanda Fyfe had never thought of.
Amanda said she had never dared to dream of a wedding, but the moment the groom Steven carried her at the ceremony and danced with her to the song Heaven by DJ Sammy, she knew her happiness was real.
In 2007, when Amanda was 23, she met Steven, then 16, while working together at Steven’s family taxi company, but it was two years later that they began dating.
Amanda said: “At first, he always teased me. He was really sarcastic and always made silly jokes. But I took a liking to him and in the end we agreed to go on a date”.
The first time they went out together, the two were very nervous. They chose to go to the cinema instead of a pub, for fear people would stare because of the great difference in height. Steven was quite shy at the time, and Amanda was usually the one to speak first. She told the young man seven years younger than her that they could still be friends if they did not become lovers.
“Our next dates were at home, then we began going out for dinner, to pubs and clubs. Some people stared, but we paid them no attention”, said the 81-cm-tall girl.
Steven carried his tiny bride and danced with her to the song Heaven, and Amanda said she really felt as if she were in heaven.
Steven’s mother was Amanda’s boss at the company, and she was a little afraid about her relationship with her son. But when she found out, she did not forbid the two of them.
“We have a good sex life, and I feel more comfortable with him than with my previous boyfriends. Although my bones break easily, sex is not dangerous because my husband is very gentle”, Amanda said.
Three months after they started dating, Amanda – who had once thought she would never have children – was shocked to learn she was pregnant. She said: “When I saw the pregnancy test was positive, I burst into tears. This was unimaginable”.
Amada was also afraid Steven would “run away”, because he was only 18. But Steven acted like a truly grown man, and loved Amada even more.

In May 2012, Steven planned a romantic dinner at home. He bought a diamond ring and proposed to her. Their wedding took place in July that year.
“I tried on so many dresses, and none of them fitted. Some were too tight, some were too big, and I could not even see my head in them”, Amanda recalled. In the end she chose a beautiful dress and was enchanted by it. The dress was shortened to suit her modest height.
“When we drove to the church, no one could see me through the window because I was so small. My father joked that people would think the bride had gone missing”.

Steven (25 years old) recalled that when he saw his wife in her wedding dress, he was overwhelmed. Amanda was truly beautiful, and the wedding day was truly magical in his life.
“I love Amanda’s eyes and smile, but she is even more beautiful inside. Amanda always makes me laugh. She is funny, and that was the first thing I noticed about her, not her height. Although she is tiny, her smile makes her shine everywhere”, Steven shared about his wife.
After their wedding in 2012, the couple and their young son were even happier. They said they would not mind having more children. The health of the girl with brittle bone disease has been better in recent years. However, becoming pregnant again seems truly dangerous for her. The couple are looking at other options so that Aidan can have a younger brother or sister.
“My son Aidan is 6 years old, and he is already 96.5 cm tall. Apart from the fact that I am smaller than most mothers, we are a completely normal family”, the 31-year-old girl with brittle bone disease affirmed.
