Finishing the first semester of the 2013-2014 school year with 10 in Maths and Reading and 9 in Writing, Nguyen Tan Sang, a boy with a disability from Mo Duc District, Quang Ngai, is gradually realising his aspirations.
The boy, once bathed in tears by the pain of his disability, is now a confident second-grade pupil at Duc Phu Primary School. Where his toes, which he used instead of his curled-up hands to write out his childhood aspirations, to drive away physical pain and the disadvantages he had to bear, were once swollen on his first days learning to write, they are now calloused from holding pens and other objects. His sweat and tears no longer soak him; instead there are neat, graceful strokes and the joy of going to school with friends…
With encouragement from his teachers, he studies very hard and always achieves good results. In class, whenever he writes, Sang looks like a little bird about to take flight, carrying the aspirations of childhood and dreaming of a bright future.
Sang loves keeping birds.
Sang’s joy is clear on his face every time he helps his mother feed the cows.
Sang can use his feet to scoop water to brush his teeth, wash his face and water the vegetables.
His mother adjusts his clothes before he goes to school.
