Because no one is perfect

Come and meet people with disabilities in Europe!

Because no one is perfect

Because no one is perfect

That is the call from a project by Pro Infirmis, an organisation for people with disabilities in Europe. They created mannequins modelled on the bodies of people with disabilities. That could be people with scoliosis, brittle bone disease, or missing an arm or a leg. Those who devoted much time and effort to the project include: film critic Alex Oberholzer, Jasmine Rechsteiner, who was crowned Miss Handicap in 2010, athlete Urs Kolly, actor Erwin Aljukić and blogger Nadja Schmid.

Watch the short clip below to see the whole process of the project, especially the faces of the people with disabilities when they first see the mannequin in their own image. These works were displayed on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in large shops along Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich. As I look at the mannequins dressed in beautiful outfits, I no longer recognise any impairment that was there before.

Because none of us is perfect. And because there is no standard for beauty. So each of us is an individual with our own beauty.

Shine, because this life needs you!
