500,000 children with disabilities supported to go to school

500,000 children with disabilities have been helped to go to school and 14,000 young people with disabilities have been trained in information technology. These are the latest figures from the Inclusion Project for People with Disabilities in Viet Nam, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) over the past 10 years and announced by the US Embassy in Viet Nam on 11 September.
Joakim Parker, Director of USAID Viet Nam, said: “Nearly 2,300 teachers and education managers have been directly trained by the project in inclusive education over the past 10 years. The project has also worked closely with the Ministry of Education and Training and provincial departments of education and training to help develop and implement policies and guidance on inclusive education. Thanks to these efforts, 10,000 teachers have been trained in inclusive education through the project-funded teacher training programme.”
Since 1989, the US Government has helped improve the quality of life and support the inclusion of people with disabilities in Viet Nam in all aspects of social life. To date, the US Government has contributed more than USD 60 million to support people with disabilities regardless of cause.
